Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan appoints reconsideration of Tekebayev case due to new circumstances
Almaty. June 20. KazTAG - The Supreme Court has appointed the date of new hearing of the case of the leader of the opposition faction of Kyrgyzstan Ata Meken Omurbek Tekebayev due to newly discovered circumstances, reports the Kyrgyzstan Telegraph Agency (KyrTAG).
“The Supreme Court will reconsider the Tekebayev case due to newly discovered circumstances. The trial is scheduled for July 16," reports the press-service of the Supreme Court.
The leader of the Ata Meken party, Omurbek Tekebayev, and former ambassador to South Korea, Duishenkul Chotonov, were arrested in February 2017. The criminal case was opened in respect of Tekebayev and Chotonov under the article "corruption". The basis for the criminal case was a statement by citizen of Russia, Leonid Mayevsky, who claimed that he transferred $ 1 million to Omurbek Tekebayev for assisting in the purchase of shares in Megacom. Allegedly Tekebayev received the money, but did not fulfill his promises. In November 2017, the court found Tekebaev guilty and sentenced him and Chotonov to 8 years imprisonment.
