The European Union will allocate 5.5 million euros for emergency funding for Radio Liberty

Astana. May 21. KazTAG – The European Union will provide 5.5 million euros in emergency funding to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty after the Trump administration cut off grants to the pro-democracy outlet, accusing it of pushing a liberal news agenda, the Associated Press reports.

“The foreign ministers have approved a 5.5 million euro ($6.2 million) contract to “support the important work of Radio Free Europe,”- EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said.

She called it “short-term emergency funding” and a “safety net” for independent journalism.
