Tokaev assigns to tighten punishment for serious crimes against person
Astana. September 2. KazTAG - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has assigned to tighten the punishment for serious crimes against a person, reports Akorda.
“We have moved away from excessive repressive measures and harsh punitive practices. However, numerous serious crimes still occur in the country. We have been focused on humanization of legislation, while losing sight of the fundamental rights of people. We need to tighten the penalties for sexual violence, pedophilia, drug trafficking, human trafficking, domestic violence against women and other serious crimes against a person, especially against children. This is my assignment to the Parliament and the Government, " he said.
In his words, "recent tragic events have revealed the problem of poaching as a most dangerous form of organized crime."
“Poachers are equipped, armed, they feel their impunity. Two wildlife inspectors were killed this year. Recently, the criminal activity of a gang of poachers on the lake of Markakol in the East Kazakhstan region was suppressed. These are just two cases, but poaching has taken deep roots, including with the connivance of law enforcement agencies. Poachers ruthlessly destroy the nature - our national wealth, ” Tokayev added.
He instructed the government within two months to "take urgent measures to tighten the relevant legislation".
