Tokayev assigns to resume construction of light rail system in Nur-Sultan

Astana. October 9. KazTAG- President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has assigned the Government and akimat of Nur-Sultan to resume the construction of light rail system.
"The Government and the akimat have decided to continue introduction of the disputable project. As they said there is no other way as they have already started the project," he said at the session on development of the capital.
"The administration of the akimat took the decision, there must be signatures. The decision was taken by the akimat. Look deeper. This project is very disputable," he added.
He said the project is disputable and unclear, but agreed that it needs completion as there are international liabilities.
"The length is 22.5 km with 18 stations. At the marathon you run longer distances in the capital. What are you constructing the LRS for? 18 stations mean a little more than 1 kilometer between them. We walk longer distances," he said.
