Tokayev promised to visit Qarmet plant in Temirtau every year

Karaganda. August 14. KazTAG – Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s working visit to the Karaganda region began with a visit to the Qarmet metallurgical plant in Temirtau, reports Akorda.
“We made the right decision, invited a domestic investor who actively started working. The situation at the plant is significantly improving compared to what it was before. But we cannot stop. The main task is to revive the former glory of Qarmet and pay close attention to solving social issues. I know that this work has already begun. I will visit the enterprise every year and see how the plant is developing,” Tokayev said.
According to Qarmet, production development projects worth over $3.5 billion have been completed and are being implemented, and investments in coal department projects of about $500 million and iron ore department projects of $978 million are planned. As reported by the Chairman of the Board of Directors Andrey Lavrentyev, the projects being implemented have made it possible to stabilize the plant's operations and forecast the fulfillment of the company's "5-9-5" program.
"According to the adopted strategy, by 2028 the company plans to reach the production volume of 5 million tons of steel, the extraction of 9 million tons of coal and 5 million tons of iron ore concentrate, which will provide an average growth of 66% compared to 2023," reads the report.
Tokayev noted the importance of switching the plant to natural gas, which will reduce its impact on the environment by 30% already at the first stage.
