"The first session of the board of appeals of the Turkestan regional court on the case of journalist Amangeldy Batyrbekov was scheduled for November 5 at 15.00. However, the lawyer of Batyrbekov was reported on the phone that the hearing would be postponed until November 12. The official reason: sickness of the victim's lawyer," said the message.
As it was reported, Saryagash district court of the Turkestan region sentenced journalist Amangeldy Batyrbekov to 2.3 years imprisonment for defamation and assault after application of Bakhtiyar Abdiyev, head of education department of Keles district, about whom Baturbekov had posted a number of critical posts in Facebook.
Adil Soz commenting on the verdict in respect of Batyrbekov said that once again Kazakhstan ignored the UN recommendation on decriminalization of defamation.
Adil Soz made a new statement on October 14 in connection with the verdict, in which the fund said that Batyrbekov’s imprisonment for expressing his opinion grossly violates the country's obligations in ratification of the international pact on civil and political rights.
