Trial of Gulnara Karimova started in Uzbekistan

Almaty. January 8. KazTAG - The trial of Gulnar Karimova, daughter of the first president of Uzbekistan, has started in Tashkent, reports the Uzbekistan Telegraph Agency.
"Today, the Tashkent City Criminal Court has started judicial hearings on the criminal case in respect of G. Karimova and others," said the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan.
As it was reported, the General Prosecutor's Office of Uzbekistan completed an investigation into the criminal case against Karimova and others.
In August 2015, Karimova was sentenced to five years in prison for extortion and tax evasion. Uzbekistan initiated arrest  of Karimova’s assets in 12 countries, including in Russia, worth more than $ 1.5 billion. Since March 2019, the daughter of the first president of Uzbekistan was serving the sentence in women's colony No. 21 in the Tashkent region.
In August 2019, the Prosecutor General's Office announced the initiation of new criminal cases against Karimova suspected embezzlement of public funds and conclusion of transactions contrary to the interests of Uzbekistan, as well as seizure by extortion of foreign property.
