Turkestan hosted regional forum of journalists
Turkestan. October 25. KazTAG - A regional forum of journalists involving the mass media from Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, Turkestan regions and Shymkent has been held in the International Kazakh-Turkish University named after Akhmet Yassaui.
Seitkazy Matayev, chairman of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan, marked that the freedom of speech was proclaimed in the Constitution, but in reality it does not concern those people who experience pressure by the authorities. First, it is proved by frequent convictions for defamation. These articles must be excluded from the Criminal Code. He believes that if any of the officials or businessmen put reporters behind the bar, one must be declared as an enemy of press. The latest example is the case of journalist Amangeldy Batyrbekov, who was imprisoned for his active civil position.
Matayev expressed gratefulness to the heads of the branches of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan: Galymzhan Yelshibay - in Turkestan, Daulet Tolendi - in Zhambyl, Amanzhol Ongarbayev- in Kyzylorda, Uali Kydyr - in Shymkent for arrangement of the regional media-forum where the memorandum on development of creative ties has been signed. The head of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan has handed the membership cards to the young reporters.
The delegates of the forum attended the new studio of TV and radio and information center in the university. They congratulated veterans-journalists Markhabat Baigut, Kosemali Sattibaiuly, Bakhtiyar Taizhan on the upcoming 100th anniversary of Yegemen Kazakhstan newspaper.
