"As Secretary of State (US Michael Pompeo) stated, the President (Donald Trump) is ready for a dialogue with Iran in order to find solutions to urgent national security issues," said the State Department representative commenting on the statements of Ayatollah Khamenei.
He did not comment on the question whether there were direct contacts between the United States and Iran or through intermediaries after D. Trump signaled at the end of July that he was ready to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
In turn, the White House refused to give assessments to the statements of Ayatollah Khamenei.
"I will forward you (with this case) to the US State Department," said a representative of the US National Security Council.
