US may reduce military contingent to 5000 people in Afghanistan
Kabul. April 22. KazTAG - The US authorities do not exclude reduction of military contingent in Afghanistan to 5000 people, reports the Afghanistan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG).
"10 000 soldiers is the optimal number that Washington intended to leave in Afghanistan to train local security forces. Now, it may be reduced by more than twice," the agency reports.
The contingent will be focused on combat with terrorism and assistance of Afghanistan structures.
"Additional options keeping at least 10 000 American soldiers in Afghanistan are being considered," reads the message.
The American military contingent in Afghanistan makes 33 000 people.
