“Water did not reach Uralsk. This needs to be discussed openly with the population. The county houses’ areas that are located below are flooded. This needs to be explained correctly,” Bektenov commented on the report of the akim of the West Kazakhstan region Nariman Turegaliev at a government meeting.
Due to the excess water level in the Zhaiyk River, there is a reverse flow into the Chagan River. In fact, the filling of the Chagan reservoir is 32.3 million cubic meters or 169% of the capacity.
The level of the Chagan River has increased, and, according to Turegaliev, part of the territory of Uralsk located in the river floodplain is being re-flooded. Today, the territories of gardening partnerships are flooded. The forces of the Ministries of Emergency Situations, Defense, and the National Guard are evacuating the population.
