“Over the year, the water level in Lake Balkhash increased by 12 cm – from 341.52 m according to the Baltic system to 341.64 m. The volume of water increased by 2 billion cubic meters,” reports the report.
Since the beginning of 2025, 3.8 billion cubic meters of water have been supplied to Balkhash from the Kapchagay reservoir in Almaty region - 0.9 billion more than in the same period last year (2.9 billion cubic meters).
"This has a positive impact on the environmental situation in the region and the Ili River delta. Filling the Kapchagay reservoir will allow for a successful irrigation period in the Akdalinsky and Shengeldy irrigation areas," said the report.
The water level in Balkhash is determined by the inflow from the transboundary Ili River, the flow of which is regulated through the Kapchagay reservoir. In 2025, it is planned to direct 12 billion cubic meters of water from it to the lake.
