Devastating natural disaster affected half the country - Tokayev

Astana. April 25. KazTAG – A devastating natural disaster has affected half of the country, said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev,  President of Kazakhstan.
“Our people have faced an ordeal. We have faced a devastating natural disaster that has affected half the country. But in these difficult days, the unity of our people was clearly demonstrated: rescuers, volunteers, civil servants, military personnel, law enforcement officers, civil activists, business representatives and youth. The spirit of unity and solidarity has embraced all regions of the country,” Tokayev said on Thursday at the XXXIII session of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.
He noted that many of our compatriots, driven by sympathy and empathy, helped those affected by the floods.
“I am immensely grateful to the citizens who showed true patriotism by making their significant contribution to the fight against the elements. In the hour of testing, our entire society rallied. As a result of coordinated actions of the Government, state bodies, specialized services, as well as the help of volunteers, more than 119 thousand people, including almost 45 thousand children, were evacuated in a timely manner. We managed to save people’s lives, and this is the main thing,” Tokayev said.
