Tokayev announced amnesty for part of participants of January events

Astana. September 2. KazTAG - Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced an amnesty for part of the participants of the January events, reports Akorda.
“The government has already mitigated the punishment for those participants in the January events who did not commit serious crimes. Many offenders have admitted their guilt and repented of their deeds. I think they deserve a second chance. Therefore, I decided to conduct a one-time amnesty for the participants in the January events,” Tokayev said.
The amnesty will not concern the main defendants involved in organizing the riots, as well as those accused of high treason and an attempted violent change of power.
“People who have committed terrorist and extremist crimes, repeat offenders, and those who have used torture will not fall under the amnesty. By demonstrating humanism, we, as a nation, will learn from this tragedy and not allow it to happen again,” the President added.
