Tracking bracelets put on corruption suspects in Kazakhstan

Astana. September 21. KazTAG - Tracking bracelets will be put on corruption suspects in Kazakhstan, reports the anti-corruption service.
“Tracking bracelets will be one of the measures of restraint against persons, not related to detention. So, on September 17, this practice was first applied by the decision of the specialized investigative court of Karaganda against a suspect in a criminal case when choosing a measure of restraint in the form of "house arrest", reads the report.
Round-the-clock monitoring and control over the suspects and accused with the help of new electronic devices will allow to promptly respond to facts of violations of the preventive measures and prevent their attempts to escape from the investigation and the court.
“The application of innovations corresponds to the requirements for the humanization of criminal punishments and, possibly in the near future, will allow to reduce the number of persons in custody and bring the penitentiary system of Kazakhstan to a new format of work,” reads the report.
The device is a passive electronic body-worn bracelet (installed on the leg of a suspect (accused) with a built-in control system.
