Almaty inhabitant told about escape from slavery in Shymkent suburbs
Almaty. November 8. KazTAG - Investigation has been initiated after an inhabitant of Almaty said he had escaped from slavery in the Shymkent suburbs, reports the police department.
"The story about a man who had spent 1.5 years in slavery in the suburbs of Shymkent spread through mass media, the case has been registered in the police department of the Turkestan region under Art. 126 (illegal confinement).Pre-trial investigation is underway," reads the message.
"The culprits will be taken to liability," said the police.
Inhabitant of Almaty Yuriy Smirnov told Eurasia TV channel that he had spent 1.5 years in slavery in the suburbs of Shymkent. He said his leg was intentionally broken in 2017 so that he could not escape and had to work at a private farm for food. Smirnov said about regular assaults and beating. He said he managed to escape when he was visiting hospital.
