Kazakhstan's current account surplus of $6.6 billion called unsustainable

Astana. August 9. KazTAG - The National Bank called Kazakhstan's current account surplus of $6.6 billion unsustainable.
"High oil prices led to a current account (balance of payments - KazTAG) surplus of $6.6 billion. However, this improvement is unsustainable, as it is provided only by rising commodity prices," said the regulator.
According to the information, the lack of domestic production of higher added value products is one of the main vulnerabilities of Kazakhstan to external shocks.
In the first half of the year, oil was at its highest price in recent years and, given its 60% share in Kazakhstan's exports, the current account of the balance of payments moved into a surplus zone.
