Online stores change course of inflation in Kazakhstan - National Bank

Astana. April 9. KazTAG - Online stores are changing the course of inflation in Kazakhstan, said the National Bank.
“In Almaty, inflation on socially important goods is more volatile than the official data of the national statistics agency. For example, in the pre-New Year period, December 26-27, 2020, a sharp increase in prices for most food products in Almaty was recorded in large chains, while prices on local markets remained practically unchanged, ” said the report.
The statistics agency tends to fix price changes later than the analytical program of the National Bank for analyzing the daily situation in the consumer price market Galymzhan. So, in the capital, where there are only four online sites, there is a stronger dependence between the data of the Galymzhan system than in Almaty, where there are eight online sites.
Also, during the analysis of aggregated data on socially significant goods in the Galymzhan system, it was determined that the data of online stores, in comparison with the prices fixed by the classical BNS survey method, change faster, which is probably due to the higher turnover of goods in online stores and the lack of the cost of updating the price tag.
