Astana. April 23. KazTAG - The problems of Temirtau power metallurgic combine pose a direct ecological threat to Kazakhstan, reads a request of a group of deputies addressed to the prime minister of Kazakhstan.
"The members of the committee on constitutional legislation, judicial system and law enforcement bodies of Senate in Karaganda region attended Temirtau where they met the management of Temirtau power metallurgic plant, which is on the list of the biggest producers of ferroalloys in Kazakhstan. The parties discussed the problems of the company which cannot be resolved independently and pose a direct threat to ecological safety of the state," reads the message.
The senators declared "ecological safety is one of strategic components of the national security and an important aspect of state priorities". In their words "many things have been done for the account of the republican budget and for the account of the World Bank for clearing the Nura river and nearby territories".
"However,  possible pollution by the collectors of the company which drains quicksilver creates a big concern. Storage of dangerous wastes, threat of their decompression or theft pose ecological threat to our state," said the deputies.
