Almaty. November 26. KazTAG - Trees from the Red Book have been cut down in Tole bi street in Almaty, said Natalya Livinskaya, head of the city's green economy department.
“Experts have determined that the cutdown trees were English oak, listed in the Red Book, this is a rare endangered species,” she said.
As it was reported, healthy trees were cut down near the Sulpak store in Almaty. The incident caused massive outrage among city dwellers. On November 24, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev intructed to conduct investigation on the case. As a result, the prosecutor's office announced that a criminal investigation was initiated.. On November 25, an eyewitness to the incident, Dilyara Bisenova, said that the police, whom she had summoned at night because of trees' cutdown, persuaded her to go home.
